Insight OT’s holistic approach aims to provide clinical expertise, practical support and evidence based Occupational Therapy for adults with neurological conditions.
Neurological conditions can often have devastating consequences, affecting many aspects of life. Each person is unique and having insight into your own capabilities is important to maximise your potential in the areas meaningful to you.
At Insight OT we recognise that each person brings their own set of skills, personality and goals from before their neurological injury. Therefore, creating an individualised approach to rehabilitation is needed. Some common impairments are:
Cognitive & perceptual issues
Sensory impairments
Emotional & behavioural changes
Physical impairments
Language difficulties
Many of these challenges can have a significant impact on an individuals ability to engage fully in family life, work, relationships, or complete basic daily activities.
-
• Concentration
• Memory
• Executive skills (planning, organisation, decision making, judgement, ability to monitor, self-reflect, working memory)
• Visuo-perceptual & spatial skills
All of these important skills can impact on our capacity to effectively complete tasks. Occupational Therapy will work to address these, through retraining, adaptation, environmental changes and management of any safety issues.

Some of the following issues may be experienced in the upper limb:
• weakness
• subluxation
• sensory impairment
• spasticity
• contractures
• pain
Treatment is complex and a combination of different approaches is often needed; task specific practise, strength retraining, constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT), splinting and electrical stimulation are some of the therapy modalities used at Insight OT
-
Physical limitations can impact on your ability to participate in daily activities such as personal care, leisure, tasks around the home, community or work. These may include weakness, reduced balance & sensory issues.
Occupational Therapy will work towards attaining the goals important to you, by addressing specific physical limitations and task specific practice.
-
Fatigue is a common symptom after an acquired brain injury (stroke or traumatic). Occupational Therapy will assist with ways to manage this type of ‘fogginess’ in order to still engage in the activities important to you.
